I’m a screw up. Try to keep that in mind.

Not again…

Posted by Jeff on Saturday, 1 April, 2006

A meh-me, that I got tagged with by Dawn… and she messed up my blog addy on the linkback to boot…

Anyway…

How did you get the idea for your profile name?

Easily. It was brilliantly photoblasted from a school newspaper, whose agenda it was to take the piss out of virtually everything. They did such a good job of such that in fact when actual news and announcements were written, they had to label it in a section called “This is for real”.

What song are you playing now, or wish you were playing?

Connection by Elastica. Great song, and a great band. Too bad their songs, like their careers, were too short.

Has the death of a celebrity ever made you cry?

Can’t say the death of a celebrity has brought me to tears, though some famous people really hit me emotionally though. First off, the tragic loss of Eddie Guerrero really affected me. I know the stark realities of wrestling, though I do enjoy the overblown theatrics of it all, but through it all I see the passion of the athletes, especially Eddie.

Though not a celebrity in the pop-culture status, I was also moved by the passing of two prominent Montrealers, being Maurice “Rocket” Richard

and Pierre Elliot Trudeau.

Richard took the most popular game in town, hockey, and turned it into the faith of Montreal, guiding the Habs to 8 Stanley Cups, was the first player to score 50 goals in a season, 50 goals in 50 games, and is amongst the greatest players ever. His funeral in Montreal was the first time I could recall having a state funeral for a Canadian athlete.

Trudeau was perhaps the greatest leader Canada has ever seen, save one of the best the world has ever seen. Through all his actions, whether it be removing laws against homosexuality in the Criminal Code of Canada, invoking the War Measures Act during the October Crisis in 1970, or even throwing a snowball at a statue of Stalin in Moscow, Trudeau believed in reason over passion.

What colour underwear are you wearing?

Hold on… erm… black.

Do you want a baby?

Yes. However, circumstances make that concept difficult at best. I’ll get back to you on it later.

What does your dad do for a living?

He’s a drunk. That’s how he garners the majority of his pay. On paper, however, he manages a private recreation facility.

What does your mum do for a living?

One day a week, she does the accounting bookwork for a close friend of hers. The other six she is a slave of a feline named Mindy. It is true, people train dogs, but cats train people.

What is/are your pet’s name(s)?

Gracie, Holly and Batista. I got to name the male, Batista. Dawn didn’t like my other suggestions of Stewie, Anakin, Vader, or the like.

What colour are your bed sheets?

We have bed sheets? I know we have a blue and grey tartan like duvet.

What are the last 3 digits of your phone number?

In Star Wars episodes, it is Attack of the Clones, The Empire Strikes Back, and A New Hope.

What was the last concert you went to?

Coldplay, in GM Place in Vancouver, to kick off their world tour. Thanks to Agostino for hooking us up with the tickets.

Who was with you?

My loving, wonderful partner Dawn.

What was the last film you watched?

Well, I watched Blue Velvet with Dawn not too long ago, though I also watched Hero by Yimou Zhang.

Who do you dislike most at this moment?

Wow. There’s too many people on the list already to mention just one.

What food do you crave right now?

Nothing. I’m really not hungry. I could really use a beer right now though, mind you the budget currently doesn’t allow for it. :(

Did you dream last night?

I most likely did, though I rarely remember my dreams.

What was the last TV show you watched?

Hockey Night in Canada. Saw the Habs beat the Bruins 2-0, then the Calgary Flames dismantle the Edmonton Oilers 4-1. Can’t wait for tomorrow either. Family Guy, Trailer Park Boys, then Kenny vs. Spenny.

What is your fav piece of jewellery?

I only have one piece of jewellery (something tells me someone of the female persuasion wrote this meh-me originally). A ring we both got at the top of Grouse Mountain to symbolize our union, love and commitment until we get proper wedding bands when we get married. Dawn, can mine look like this?

And can I start calling you My Precioussssssssss?

What is to the left of you?

My cup of green tea, my orange juice, and the television.

What was the last thing you ate?

A baked pasta that Dawn made for me. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm… good. Thank you babe.

Who is your best friend of the opposite sex?

Well, I’d have to start with my partner, Dawn. For further references, see post on both this blog and on hers. Aside from Dawn, it’s got to be my wonderful sis Jana. She has always been there for me when I needed it, and never backed down when I needed her to be in my face about something. Even through her distracting me when I read, or her trying (and succeeding) to twist my nipples. OUCH!

Who last MSN’d you?

JIMMMMMAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!

Where is your significant other right now?

Sitting on the couch behind me, watching some program on the W Network (the favourite network of Gilbert Smythe - Bite Me) shot in Paris, France.

Do you have a crush?

What I have for Dawn is so far progressed from a crush it’s not funny. There are women I do find attractive, though nothing that extends to a crush. Dawn harbours this belief though that others have a crush on me, though I fail to see the logic in her argument.

What is his/her name?

For who I have a crush on, which is nobody, or who has a crush on me, who still again is nobody?

When was the last time you had your hair cut?

A few weeks ago. It was getting quite unruly.

Are you on any meds?

Nope. Not had any Mary J. since new years. What. Oh, legal ones. That would still have to be nope.

Do you have a mental disease?

None that I have been diagnosed with. The possibilty of many could be the amusing subject for debate, however.

What shirt are you wearing?

My Vancouver Canucks away jersey.

Are you sexy?

Nope. My beautiful Dawn is the sexy one. Don’t let her tell you any different.

What’s your favourite store?

Definitely not Best Buy. A few are tops on the list. Chapters, Home Depot, various Camera stores, HMV are definitely there though.

Are you thirsty?

No. I have two drinks in front of me. And yes Dawn, I made you your cuppa.

Can you imagine yourself ever getting married?

Read this blog and Dawn’s, then make up your own mind.

Who’s someone you haven’t seen in a while and miss?

A few. Agostino, Todd, Mandy, Heath, Jana, Ashley, Paul, Mom and Dad top the list.

Where do you work?

Right now, at Best Buy, though I’m cutting my hours to work on film sets here in Vancouver. In case you haven’t read this blog yet, I’m a film geek and lighting/editing guy who, like everyone else in this industry wants to do, one day director.

As for tags, I tag anyone who reads this. Please leave a trackback.

That is all.

What a long, strange trip it’s been

Posted by Jeff on Saturday, 1 April, 2006

And keep in mind I haven’t even toked all year. Well except for New Years. Anyhow, as for the few committed readers of mine, even fewer who have changed their links to me realize, I’m not up to my usual 1 post per day standard. I may have touched on this before, but I shall re-iterate this one instance I have noticed between the summer and the winter.

In the summer, I worked fairly consistently in the film industry here in Vancouver. This meant 12-14 hour days typically, getting up right early, and getting home right late. Yet, through all of it, I had loads of energy at home in my brief downtime, and during days off had energy to explore our new home with my bride to be, Dawn. I almost always had a blog post of some form, and things were good.

In the late fall, as the frequency of film calls dropped dramatically, I sought employment through the winter, at my local Best Buy, who’s motto is No Commission, No Pressure. Well, more about that in a minute. Back to the point, I only work 8 hour days at the big blue box, and I come home almost completely exhausted. I had aspirations of writing a few short films to shoot before film picked up. But how on earth can I write even one short film if I can’t even manage 1 post a day?

Well, to put things bluntly, I truly believe I was meant to work in film. I come home charged (whether that’s a good thing or not is subject to debate, but is a good indicator of my mood). Hence my mood allows me to overcome physical fatigue factors. However, Best Buy is draining. Why? Well, the motto listed above is half right. We are not paid commission on any sales. We make our $9 and change an hour, and that’s it. However, there’s huge pressure to push sales of service plan and accessories. For further references, see BestBuySux.org. As such, there still remains the pressure.

Luckily, now, this week things are changing. Dawn and I are finally getting things in gear for our wedding, which for all intensive purposes looks to be occuring around the middle of October. But with the pricetag of a wedding, fiancially things must change from my conditions of employment at Best Buy. Well, luckily enough, our dear friends at IATSE, the film technician’s union, gave us the wake up call, letting Dawn and I know things are back in full swing. What could this mean?

I can reduce hours at Best Buy, I can work in film, I can make money, I can pay for the wedding, and most importantly, I CAN LIVE MY LIFE AGAIN. It’s just a shame I didn’t see the GM’s face when he found out.

Yes, spring is here. The hibernation is over. Life is returning to my body.

That is all.
