A Golden World

I’m a screw up. Try to keep that in mind.

Half of seventy

Posted by Jeff on Wednesday, 19 December, 2007

You know, when I was younger, I used to love seeing those cards in the Hallmark stores (and surprisingly enough, not just the Far Side greeting cards) that brought nostalgia about your date of birth. I never got one. Mind you, I don’t think much would have made me go ooohhh at though, as I read loads of facts over my years.

Now, with the sheer joy of the InterwebTM, I can finally find some others I wasn’t quite aware of:

On this day:

324 - Licinius abdicates his position as Roman Emperor.
1843 - A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens, is first published in England.
1924 - Doug Harvey is born.
1957 - Kevin McHale is born.
1967 - Criss Angel is born.
2001 - A record high barometric pressure of 1085.6 hPa (32.06 inHg) is recorded at Tosontsengel, Khövsgöl Province, Mongolia. (ed’s note: ooh, exciting stuff).

As for what I was already somewhat aware of:

1944 - Venus Flytrap is born.
1998 - Lewinsky scandal: The United States House of Representatives forwards articles I and III of impeachment against President Bill Clinton to the Senate. Thus America proves it has more disdain for sexual scandal than it does for human rights violations.

More tibits to be found here.

But most interestingly,

1972 - Apollo program: The last manned lunar flight, Apollo 17, crewed by Eugene Cernan, Ron Evans and Harrison Schmitt, returns to Earth. This coincides with the day I escaped the wretched womb, making my lifespan the exact amount of time since mankind has travelled to the moon. Creepy.

That is all.

P.S. Thanks to Dawn, Mom, Dad, Tim, Rob, Kelly, Mike, Will, Warren, Greg, Matt, and of course

Fox birthday email

Jeff O’Neil, Charis, and Captain Scotty for their birthday wishes.

That is really all now. Just 35 more to go till 70.
